Carlson excels in the hunters and equitation divisions and has been highly competitive in the 3'3" green hunters, AA hunters, age equitation, and even qualified for his first medal finals months after being imported. He is an amateurs' dream, with comfy gaits, automatic lead changes, and the ability to counter canter with ease. He has been Champion and Reserve Champion multiple times in the hunters and equitation. His 2019 titles include (majority of wins with amateur rider):
